Apple Announces Major Updates To Consumer And Desktop Hardware Lines

Apple announced major updates to its consumer and desktop product lines—including Mac Pro, iMac and Mac mini. These updates include the latest Intel processors, high-performance graphics, and much more.

Mac Pro

The all-new Mac Pro features next-generation Quad-core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processors and a high-performance system architecture for nearly twice the performance as before. Also, all-new advanced graphics and a redesigned interior for even easier expansion. Mac Pro delivers the performance, graphics, and expansion capabilities that creative and scientific professionals demand.


iMac

The new iMac models feature faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, faster memory, more hard drive capacity, the latest NVIDIA graphics, and double the memory across the line. The iMac product line features one 20-inch model and three 24-inch models (starting at $1499 US for the 24-inch model). iMac offers more performance and value than ever for demanding desktop customers.

 


 

Mac mini

With NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics and Intel Core 2 Duo processors, Mac mini delivers up to 5 times more graphics performance than the previous model, while consuming 45 percent less power. Mac mini features up to double the amount of standard memory and hard drive space, a standard SuperDrive, and updated wireless networking for the same price as the previous models.

 


Apple Announces Updates To AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule

Apple announced updates to AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. These updates include simultaneous dual-band 802.11n WiFi, which delivers the best possible performance, range, and compatibility. Devices will automatically choose the best band available. New features also include Guest networking, which allows customers to set up a separate network for friends and guests, and support for Back to my Mac for MobileMe users.

AirPort Extreme

AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11n support, which makes it easier than ever to set up a high-performance Wi-Fi network. AirPort Extreme now lets customers set up a Guest network, support for Back to my Mac for MobileMe customers, Gigabit Ethernet ports for connecting computers or printers, and a USB port for sharing a printer and/or a hard drive.

Time Capsule

Time Capsule is a Wi-Fi hard drive that works with Mac OS X Leopard’s Time Machine to back up all your data. It’s also a full-featured wireless base station that includes simultaneous dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Guest Network, Back to my Mac support for MobileMe users, Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a USB 2.0 port for sharing a printer and/or a hard drive.
